UK Vacay: London!

I just got back from a week-long trip to Great Britiain, where I spent four days in London and three days in Bath. I'm splitting up my trip into a few different posts, mostly because the trip had a lot of things crammed into very little space.

Here are a few pictures from around Kensington, where my hotel was. The British Natural History Museum was a block away, but I didn't have time to go in. :-(

On Friday, the conference arranged  for some of us to go on a short boat trip down the River Thames to Greenwich, where we took a walking tour and had lunch at a pub called the King's Arms. Greenwich is a beautiful area with numerous ties to naval history.

The building with the red ball is the Greenwich Observatory, where Greenwich Mean Time comes from.

It was definitely cool to see the Greenwich clock, standard measurements, and meridian line between east and west longitude!

So the entire reason I went to England recently was to help interview and recruit counselors for summer camp. The recruitment event took place in the QE II Conference Center, across from Westminster Abbey. Allison was sight-seeing in the area that day, and told me later that there was a line of people going around the block waiting to get into the building, which was at full capacity.

It was so busy that day that both my boss and I were talking for eight hours straight. I was starting to lose my voice, but we got some really awesome people for the summer and I can't wait to work with them.

Me!
On Sunday morning, I met up with Allison and we went to the Tower of London. We got to see the Crown Jewels, which were absolutely breathtaking.

NEIGH!

We didn't have time to see everything at the Tower because we had to grab our luggage and catch a train to Bath. I think if I ever get to go back for this conference, I'll add a day in London to do some extra sight-seeing.
