One of the nice features of this camp is Keyser Lake, a massive 33-acre lake that has two bays, a peninsula, and an island. A couple of days ago the weather took a break from its two-week span of constant rainfall, so I grabbed a ziplock bag for my camera and went boating with Bloomer and Loki.
This camp has several different kinds of boats: canoes, rowboats, kayaks, paddleboats, sailboats, etc. Canoeing has always been my favorite because it's easier to maneuver than a rowboat and more stable than a kayak. And something about how they look is just so aesthetically pleasing.

Loki seemed to be having some trouble getting started in her wind-sailing boat, so I went to explore the two bays on the side of the lake while she got situated.

Bench at the end of Jackman's Bay |

If I had a mattress in the boat, I could have taken a nap in the middle of the lake. It was very peaceful.
A few benches are perched here and there along the edge of the lake. There is a hiking trail around the lake, but not many people use it so it's gotten pretty overgrown. And apparently most of the trails are like that. One of the things I'd like to do this summer is trail maintenance.
Anyway, this bench is in the cove of Beaver Bay. I kept trying to maneuver the canoe to get a good picture, but the current was pulling my boat all over the place. Then the strangest thing happened: the current changed and something pulled my boat directly to the shore.
I got a little spooked by it and paddled away pretty quickly.

By the time I left Beaver Bay I saw that Loki was sailing. Onesie, the boating instructor, followed behind while giving instructions.

This is right about when Loki was going to "aim" for my boat. I was a bit terrified but she didn't even get close. |

Ever-vigilant lifeguards |
It was really relaxing and a nice break from being in the office or driving around in a large truck. The rain started up again shortly afterwards, but at least later that evening we were lucky enough to see a rainbow!
